Giving Thanks
Given the holiday week,
my message to you will short, simple, and impactful.
This week, reach out and give
thanks.
Thank your
employees for making your life and your job easier. You couldn't do your
work without them. You shine and excel because of them. Let them know it.
Take time to find at least two specific things each employee (or your
teams) have done well and thank them for their great work.
Thank your
manager for hiring you and allowing you to use your skills and talents to
make the company a success.
Thank your
customers for doing business with you - for helping you feed your family
and the families of those who work for you.
Thank your
mom for giving you life and for all the special things she did whether it
was making you eat your vegetables, showing you how to tie your shoes,
wiping your running nose, and coming to every school play. She may have
never said it, but she always, always believed in you.
Thank your
dad for his strength and wisdom, and for teaching you how to change a
tire, unclog a sink, and show respect for your mom. Thank him for paying
for your education and not yelling at you when you wrecked his car.
Thank your children
for the joy they give you every day.
Thank your
siblings for sharing their lives with you, for making you giggle during
grace, for keeping their promise not to steal your favorite shirt, and
for being a great friend.
Thank your
neighbor for being quiet, kind, respectful, and, well, neighborly.
Thank your
dog (and your cat) for their devotion (even if your cat never shows it).
Thank a
stranger for a random act of kindness. We all need to know we have value
in the world.
Thank
yourself for sharing your gifts with the world. Go ahead, give yourself
an attaboy, attagirl.
You deserve it.
I personally
thank you for listening and for being here. Have a safe and wonderful
holiday.
